August Sales Managers’ Index Shows Continuing Evidence of a Slowdown in
U.S. Economic Growth

  • Headline Sales Managers Index eases to 33 month low at 51.8
  • Market and Sales Growth Indexes register lowest readings since November 2016
  • Prices increasing at a faster rate
The probability of recession in the US economy continues to increase with August Sales Managers’ Index data reporting a rapid slowdown in business activity for the month. Businesses are reporting the slowest sales and market growth in close to 3 years while prices are on the rise. Business confidence continues to slide with companies continuing to shed jobs in anticipation of tougher future economic conditions. The Staffing Levels Index has now reached a 34 month low of 47.8 in August.
