The Sales Managers Index: China Manufacturing

The First Data on Economic Activity Levels in China - Every Month
Released: 29 April 2019

April China Manufacturing Data Show a Further Fall in Activity

  • March uplift reversed in April as all Sales Managers indexes either negative or falling
  • Sales Managers Headline Index close to No-Growth line
  • Jobs, Market Growth and Profits Indexes all register recession
The uplift in economic activity seen by Sales managers in March has proven ephemeral, with all Sales Indexes showing a reversal in activity in April.

Every Index is now in negative territory or falling close to the 50 no-growth Index level.

The Headline Sales Index has now been trending down for over a year.

Perhaps most disturbing; the Jobs, Profits and Market Growth Indexes are below the 50 line indicating falling activity levels. The Prices Charged Index has also been registering a sharp decline since October 2018, further indicating market weakness.
